We love Steam!
It is no doubt that Steam has completely transformed the PC gaming market. Their games are really not much more than a foundation when compared to the other things Steam has done to change the gaming industry and our lives in particular.
Here are 5 reasons why we love Steam:
Gaming has been around for many years, but game publishers have constantly refused to sell games at a discounted rate except, for those extremely rare one-off occasions. If you wanted to pay less for a game, it is possible only through buying it from a second-hand market. Steam is the reason why the gaming industry has learned to discount games in order to boost sales to a wider audience. Console manufacturers were traditionalists for many years until they decided to follow Steam’s example and allow discounts for older games. Now, old games keep returning during discounts and continue to make money and spread awareness. Generally speaking, if you’re buying a new PC or console game at less than the full MRP, (MSRP) that’s due to Steam’s influence on the industry.
Piracy has dropped drastically thanks to Steam. This is not because they introduced some unbeatable DRM system. It’s because the Steam library has made games more accessible and affordable to gamers. Many gamers would rather throw in a few bucks to buy a game on sale instead of illegally downloading it and worrying about Trojans and bugs. Piracy obviously still happens, but it has vastly reduced today.
3.Collection of Games:
Steam has made some extremely popular, critically-acclaimed games in the past (CS, CoD, DOTA2, the Half-Life series, the Portal series, and the Team Fortress series). These games are among the best. By limiting what they make, and ensuring what they put out is super awesome, they avoid the trap of pushing out a game a year.
4.Customer-oriented business style:
Steam has a very customer-oriented business style. Team Fortress 2, which is an online multiplayer game, is now being released for free. Other free games include DOTA2, Warframe, Unturned, etc.
Also, Steam is a cloud based platform. Hence, people from all across the world can access it anywhere and anytime.
Example: The latest DOTA2 Compendium 2016 broke the record for the largest prize pool (Currently: $19,544,974 and counting) in a gaming tournament. 25% of all the Battle Pass sales go directly into this prize pool!
5. Platform for Indie Games:
Steam offers a platform for Indie games to be published and a place for communities to grow. Through their “Greenlight” program, Indie games are offered a chance to be listed in their main catalog. This can give game creators an efficient way to enter the market, and gives gamers a way to see smaller and interesting titles.
All things considered, Steam is an answer to a game lover’s prayers, having become that amazing platform for gaming that will last forever.
