Stress relief through gaming
Gaming is a way to relieve stress, reduce depression, and is something that makes you feel better. This may sound like a big claim to make, but today there is plenty of evidence to support it. If gaming isn’t a regular part of your life, add a bit of game time to your schedule and you can actually improve your mental health!
Ideally, when you think of gaming, you may picture a bunch of teenagers sitting in front of a big-screen TV, constantly jamming buttons on their controllers, while aggressively gaming FTW! However, today this stereotype is broken by several research studies. YES! The recent numbers state that men and women are pretty much on equal footing as gamers. This basically means that people of every age group turn to gaming for entertainment. So, if you choose to game for a while after classes or work, you will experience faster recovery from the stress you experienced during the day and will be able to handle it much better. Today, it is pretty obvious that games provide a direct, positive effect on the brain. Contrary to popular belief, the effects of gaming are certainly not negative, but more on the positive side. So, if your family has been giving you hell about the dangers of gaming, don’t take it to heart. As it turns out that all that time you spent playing Call of Duty or CS might have actually helped you become a lot more relaxed and stress-free than non-gamers. And there’s actual science to back it up, so you now have a legit reason to game. Hell, yeah!
Besides all this, gaming is also known to have plenty of health benefits like improved motor skills, better decision-making skills, better concentration skills and what not. It’s a pastime that is all about diverting your mind onto something else and getting into a different zone. I would also like to add that a little violence in games actually helps. Come on, wouldn’t you just love a simple ‘Whack-your-boss’ or ‘Flappy Bird’ on your smartphone or PC? We aren’t really doing any physical harm.
To sum it up, the next time you find yourself feeling stressed out and needing a break, give gaming a try. You don’t have to go out and get a PS4 or Xbox, I’m pretty sure the prices alone will stress you out. Instead, simply try playing online or on your smartphone.
So, tell me what games do you play to reduce your stress? I vote for Candy Crush!
